Procedures for Specimen Submission and Handling

Specimen collection. labeling, preservation, and conditions for specimen transport.

  1. Bacterial cultures: In most cases specimens are inoculted directly into culture media in the clinic. Swabs that have been collected within 4 hours are also accepted.
  2. Samples for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for HSV, VZV, CMV and T. gondii: Download PCR Processing for instructions on collection and shipping and Requisition for Molecular Diagnostic Testing. Also, please print and fill out the Patient Billing Information form.
