Sources of Support

The major source of income for the Proctor Foundation comes from the Elizabeth C. Proctor Endowment. Other endowment funds include the Cecilia Vaughn Fellowship Fund, Ralph and Sophie Heintz Lecture and Laboratory Fund, Harry Hind Library Fund, Rose Graciano Library Fund and Peierls Endowments. In addition, support for research activities comes from extramural sources of which the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health, is the largest single source. No state or University of California funds are received in support of the Foundation.

Donations from private individuals remain a key source of support for the Foundation's activities. These uncommitted funds are critical to initiating new research projects that require pilot studies, and for start-up costs of new faculty.

Private organizations also provide important support for research and teaching. These organizations include:

Two particularly active areas of fundraising include the solicitation of funds for a Faculty Recruitment in Microbial Pathogenesis and for a World Blindness Center. The plan for these monies will be to remodel laboratory and office space as well as to establish endowed chairs for faculty and endowments to fund pilot research projects.

Funds of the Proctor Foundation are administered by the Office of the Treasurer, The Regents, University of California.
