Dr. Hwang’s two principal areas of laboratory research are the epidemiology and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in the context of the treatment of ocular infections; and human corneal endothelial cell transplantation and gene therapy. Dr. Hwang’s principal area of clinical research is in refractive surgery, also known as vision correction surgery, and in pharmacotherapy for bacterial and viral infections of the external eye.
