The major foci of studies in Dr. Schachter’s laboratory are the epidemiology and clinical manifestations of chlamydial infections. In the United States, these studies stress sexually transmitted diseases, with a lesser interest in respiratory infections. In developing countries, trachoma is the major focus, with some interest in the other two. In addition, the laboratory is evaluating diagnostic methods for chlamydial infections.
