Research Interests

Over the past year Dr. McLeod’s research in refractive surgery has focused on the development of an accommodating intraocular lens, a device that is intended to restore near vision to patients undergoing cataract surgery. Clinical trials of this lens are currently underway in Germany. He is also studying molecular techniques to improve biointegration of this and similar intraocular devices. One such line of research centers on improving the biocompatibility of prosthetic corneas.  In collaboration with colleagues in the Proctor Foundation, Dr. McLeod’s cornea research emphasizes methods for the diagnosis and treatment of corneal infections..
