The Proctor Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory no longer accepts clinical ocular samples for culture or pathogen-directed PCR.
If you are interested in HSV, VZV, CMV, or Toxoplasma gondii PCR testing for intraocular samples, then we recommend sending the samples to the Stanford Clinical Virology Laboratory (http://clinicalvirology.stanford.edu). These assays were validated on Proctor ocular samples and based on Proctor’s rigorous standards.
In keeping with the Proctor Foundation's goal to constantly upgrade the laboratory services available to the community, the Ralph and Sophie Heintz Laboratory at Proctor (in collaboration with the DeRisi Laboratory) is spearheading the effort to bring a comprehensive molecular testing assay, metagenomic deep sequencing (MDS), to the clinical lab to better diagnose intraocular infections. Questions can be directed to Thuy Doan, MD, PhD, at (415-476-4419, Thuy.Doan@ucsf.edu).
We anticipate that the Proctor Foundation will remain the leader in ocular molecular diagnostic testing and epidemiology research.
