Dr. Emmett T. Cunningham, Jr. has an extensive background in ophthalmology, neuroscience, and public health. He received his MD and MPH in epidemiology and statistics from Johns Hopkins University, and his PhD in neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for research conducted at The Salk Institute. He completed his residency in ophthalmology and fellowship training in Corneal Disease and Uveitis at UCSF and The Francis I. Proctor Foundation, a medical retina and uveitis fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, and a fellowship in public health ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore.

Dr. Cunningham has held several prominent positions in both academic and corporate sectors. He was a Senior Managing Director at Blackstone Life Sciences and has been a full-time entrepreneur and investor for over 20 years. He led the development of Macugen at Eyetech Pharmaceuticals and has been involved in multiple biotech and pharmaceutical investments, supporting the FDA approval of ten therapeutics. Currently, he serves as a Senior Partner at HealthQuest Capital.

He is also actively involved in academia, teaching clinical ophthalmology at Stanford University and UCSF, and holds an adjunct professorship at California Pacific Medical Center.

Dr. Cunningham's recent projects include serving on the boards of various biopharmaceutical companies and continuing his research and clinical work in infectious and inflammatory eye diseases. He is also the founder and chairman of the Ophthalmology Innovation Summit, which fosters collaboration and innovation in ophthalmology.
